How I Learned to 'Vlog Like a Boss'

Amy Schmittauer is giving a class on vlogging on my computer screen. You can see my Star Wars cup and Dwight bobble head; that's how you know I mean business.

I started vlogging last month, and I even wrote a blog post about what I learned from vlogging on my own, but the biggest lesson I learned about vlogging on my own is how little I actually knew about vlogging.

So when I found “Vlog Like a Boss,” I was excited to learn how a professional YouTuber makes her videos, so that I can try and do the same.

You can read about how I found the class here.

Here’s an outline of the things I learned about in Amy Schmittauer’s class, “Vlog Like a Boss” on CreativeLive:

I took a screen cap straight from the CreativeLive website while I was viewing the Vlog Like a Boss class videos.

  • Tips on how to get comfortable in front of a camera.

  • Presents gear that professional YouTubers use, and how to get the best quality video from the gear that you already have.
    • She brings in Vincenzo Landino (CEO of Aftermarq) and Blake Guidry (Cinematographer at Aftermarq) to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of utilizing different kinds of equipment to film/record a vlog.

  • How to use social media to market and get traffic to your YouTube channel.
    • With an emphasis on using YouTube, YouTube Live Feed, Instagram Stories, and Facebook Live to connect to viewers in different ways.

  • Basic, and a little bit of advanced, video editing.
    • These were some of my favorite lessons because she actually sits down and shows you her technique for editing her own videos.
